OpenAnswer and Asterisk - The Synergy Behind the Scenes

Asterisk and OpenAnswerIn June, we launched a revolutionary open source live answering service software called OpenAnswer. From a high level, it's a feature-packed software package capable of running answering services of all sizes. It's scalable, flexible and simple enough for operators to get up to speed quickly and painlessly. Asterisk powers this state-of-the-art browser-based app, providing skills-based routing and a real time Asterisk call management console that shows incoming queue calls, connected calls, and agent status.

Asterisk is arguably the industry standard open source framework for building complex business phone systems and call center software. Our developers have relied on Asterisk to help get calls where they need to go as efficiently as possible.

In case you haven't heard the details about OpenAnswer just yet, here's a quick breakdown of the possibilities with our new open source answering service software. One of the biggest perks is that with OpenAnswer, agent stations no longer cost thousands of dollars to deploy. Nor do you have your hands tied in lengthy vendor contracts. You get the flexibility without the one size fits all proprietary software constraints ... the beauty of open source licensing. Built-in reporting features in OpenQView, packaged with OpenAnswer, analyzes your call flow and allows for real-time call and queue monitoring. The intuitive admin UI allows for complex account setup with ease and minimal training time.

We've been running OpenAnswer in place of a multi-million dollar system to handle incoming calls for thousands of companies across the U.S. in our own inbound call center, VoiceNation Live for several months now. Director of Operations, Eric Schurke, says "OpenAnswer has exponentially increased operator efficiency, accuracy, and productivity more than we could have ever imagined."
The idea behind OpenAnswer was generated by VoiceNation President, Jay Reeder who originally helped create an in-house answering service solution but with rapid growth and evolving technology saw the need for something more advanced. "We evaluated every solution out there and couldn’t find one that met our needs, so we created it … and then decided to give it away to the world”.

We're excited to embrace open source software with this project and Asterisk, a prime example of a solid open source project, has helped us bring OpenAnswer to life. We invite you to see for yourself how OpenAnswer can literally set your answering service business free.
